Are princess cut diamonds more expensive than round diamonds for the same amount of carat?

Princess cut diamonds are famous for their square cut. The princess cut is the second most popular cut, after the round cut. Princess cut rings have been known to have more "fire" then all the other cuts.

They are going to be be roughly the same (No pun intended).

An uncut diamond is called a rough diamond. Either two princess cuts or two round brilliants may be cut from that shape. To get the fancy cuts such as marquise, emerald, trillion, radiant or pear you will need a different style of rough diamond, which is rarer, and more expensive.

And even more expensive cuts like Asscher, Hearts on Fire, Leo, Crisscross, Lily... etc you have to pay for the branding, rarity of rough and more loss. Usually you cut away more of the rough diamond for them.

End of day, for equal quality and carat weight of diamonds you will pay about equal for Princess and Rounds, with progressively more for the rarer cuts of diamond.
